The Eleventh Tuesday
On the eleventh Tuesday, Mitch and Morrie talk about how our culture does not make anyone feel very good about themselves. The chapter begins with Albom giving Morrie one of his regular massages. He describes the feeling of Morrie’s skin, and thinks about how hard people work out just to lose it all with age. Afterwards they talk about the culture and how the economy threatens people. He explains that he has chosen not to be part of that culture, not to disregard but to chose different desires. Lastly, Albom has a flashback to a school basketball game, where students were chanting and Morrie quiets them by asking, “What’s wrong with being number two?”
