Tuesdays with Morrie comparison to Name of the Wind
In the story Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, Morrie is a mentor to Mitch by telling him life lessons, and teaching him some of the skills he has achieved. In Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss, the main character Kvothe (pronounced Quothe) is mentored by one of the oldest professors at the University, Elodin. These stories are similar, in that both main characters willing travel to the place of their mentor, though Mitch returns to his mentor, and Kvothe meets Elodin unexpectedly. Both stories have the mentor teaching from experience, not from books, and teaching a course that for many, if not most, is hard to understand. Morrie with life, Elodin with finding everything's secret name. Both characters, Kvothe and Mitch, end up walking away with a great lesson learned. A major difference though, is that Mitch respected Morrie as a wise man, whereas Kvothe considered Elodin to be a lunatic.
